Tyler Perry was right. "I can do bad all by myself!"

Well this past week hasn't been pretty. The boys got sick for a few days, and I stayed home to care for them. They definitely watched way to much TV and played way to many video games. I'm pretty sure we missed a teeth brushing once or twice, and we definitely had at least one day where they didn't get out of their pajamas or as I prefer to call it: "pajama day." (I think that sounds better don't you?) Any way, big thanks to my in-laws and parents for helping and thank you to all of you for your prayers and support. Friday marked the last day we received meals from our church friends and our neighbors. They have really come in handy and have been a tremendous blessing. However, you know what this means. Daddy gets to cook, or as my children prefer to call it, "Run for your lives. Daddy's setting stuff on fire again!" Today was my first attempt. David asked for waffles. My response was to give birth to a cow. When I recovered, I forced myself into the kitchen. I went through three boxes of Bisquick, and I'm not sure how much milk and eggs. It wasn't pretty, but I managed to create 6 waffles. For those of you who read this and are my neighbors, pay no attention to the fleet of fire trucks that are sure to come to our house this coming week. For the rest of you, if I don't update this blog in a few weeks it's because I burned down the house trying to make toast. Until next time, stay safe and God bless.

Dave, I loved your commentary on making waffles. I don't expect to hear fire engines on your street. You'll get the hang of this cooking thing!

....frozen waffles are just as good! Glad to hear humor in the cooking report. Pajama days are wonderful, kick back and chill days! They sometimes are a small way to keep sane as a parent! Keep on, keepin on, Dave! A little dose of humor does a lot for the soul. As always, praying for you and those wonderful little ones....Jim and Judy

Dave,I agree w/Judy, we have frozen waffles here (b/c in this house I, the mom, am not much of a cooker and "gasp" have no idea how to make a pancake or waffle that isn't frozen!) and pj days are the best, we all do it sometimes, especially when kids are sick. sounds like you are doing a great job and if the kids eat frozen meals while you get the hang of cooking, so be it. BTW, casseroles are pretty easy and healthy too! good to hear some humor. praying for you and your little guys.

Dave, I'm going to give you a box of Pancake Complete ~ same as Bisquick except all you have to add is water to make pancakes, and oil if it's waffles. That's all I can handle myself! I'm impressed by your great attempts! YAY for Daddy!!!

You are a great dad! They make some great frozen waffles out there too. We have all let our kids watch too much tv, etc. Sometimes you have to do what you need to do to get through the day!! Thanks for making me laugh as well!

Dave, I am so glad you have chosen to use this blog as an outlet. With so much on your plate, I am sure we all appreciate you giving us a glimpse into your life.

As for the bad cooking, you are in good company. I am a terrible cook as well and we recently had the fire dept. at our house.

Keep on trying, it can't be totally hopeless....can it? haha
Until then get yourself some frozen waffles.

Dave- I love reading your blog posts. You are such a creative writer. Miss you lots! As some other friends posted, frozen waffles and pancakes are great, as is Bisquick complete. I am so proud of you that you attempted making waffles. I don't make them often, and if I do, I have BJ help me- they are so complex- at least from scratch :) Love you and wish I could bring you a meal. Take care, friend!

Like some others have said- thank you for giving us updates & glimpses into your lives. David is a special little boy & it is nice to be able to chat with him at lunch. Another suggestion while you are getting the hang of cooking. Perhaps you could have 2-3 mothers over- one occupies the kids while the others work alongside you making a few meals at one time. Then you freeze a few of them- this one day of cooking saves time on other busy nights.

Dave,
I've only been cooking since I've been married...1 year and 4 months. I'll have to e-mail you some easy & delicious recipes. I agree with my Mom. You'll get the hang of this cooking thing!
